Περίληψη:The authors have a long research experience on the study of salt decay mechanisms in masonries and masonry materials; they have tried to understand the influence of mortars and brick/stone properties on the durability of masonries to salt crystallization. Furthermore they have investigated the durability of surface treatments as water repellents and consolidants used to protect or strengthen the masonry surface against deterioration. The results of crystallization tests on brick masonry wallettes treated with different materials are presented. Data on the longterm damage were obtained with the application of a nondestructive method for measuring the long term decay of the masonries. (AU)
