Integration between historical heritage and environmental context for quality tourism. The case of Marina di Staranzano and the Isola Della Cona

In the Mediterranean Basin, you can still admire an infinite number of historical settlements masterfully set into the environmental context. And it is precisely this successful combination which has produced the typical landscapes which area as much part of our history and culture as is our rich historical and monumental heritage. Περίληψη:In the Mediterranean Basin, you can still admire an infinite number of historical settlements masterfully set into the environmental context. And it is precisely this successful combination which has produced the typical landscapes which area as much part of our history and culture as is our rich historical and monumental heritage. Starting from this observation, we believe it is important to pay equal attention both to the material conservation of our historical and archaeological heritage, the main subject of the congress, and to understanding and preserving its links with the surrounding environment. The preservation or compatible transformation of "natural monuments" is therefore an essential element towards the preservation and conservation of "man-made monuments" and is the fundamental precondition for improving the quality of tourist sites in the Mediterranean. To confirm this theory, we intend to discuss an emblematic case involving a section of coastline in the north-east of the Upper Adriatic characterized by tourist destinations, high quality naturalistic habitats and important historical and archaeological sites. This site has been the object of a touristic-environmental development study during which we developed a working methodology to integrate and exploit both existing and latent resources in defining an approach which evaluates and relates natural and historical resources and artefacts while at the same time incentivating quality tourism.
